We will also discuss techniques to reduce the impact of stress and trauma, using tools such as Meditation and Self-Care.

Please join us in our exploration of these topics. We have brought in experts in these fields to help guide our discussions, and to provide us with tools to help us to deal with these issues.

Building Resilience Through Trauma-Informed Care

Event Occured: Saturday, December 11, 2021  11am – 12:30pm PST

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma have been shown to negatively impact young people’s cognitive, behavioral, and social-emotional development. Thankfully there are protective factors that lessen the harmful effects of trauma and nurture resilience. In this virtual session, we will explore: the prevalence and impact of ACEs and trauma; healthy resiliency skills and traits; and ways that we can foster a young person’s well-being and resilience.

Behavior as a Form of Communication

Event Occured: Tuesday, December 14, 2021 6pm-7:30pm PST

If young people have experienced chronic and/or traumatic stress it can show up in their behavior, ranging from internalizing (anxiety, withdrawal, disengagement, etc.) to externalizing behaviors (defiance, power struggles, aggression, etc.). We are most effective in responding to these challenging behaviors when we view behavior as a form of communication and address the young person’s needs for safety, belonging, and feeling valued.  In this session, we explored trauma-informed mindsets and strategies to address the social-emotional and behavioral needs of the young people you work with and care for.

How Are The Children? First Ask: “How Are The Adults?”

Thursday, January 20, 2022 6pm – 7:30pm PST

Suicide prevention in youth includes modeling healthy mental health habits. Healthy mental health habits prioritize a significant commitment to self-care. Youth are more likely to utilize the self-care and mental health strategies they observe. When healthy approaches are not made explicit, youth are more likely to choose habits that mitigate or numb their trauma. Let’s discuss what a trauma-informed approach to self-care looks like–what you’re doing and how it impacts the youth you love and serve. Heal.
