WORK OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND BELONGING (DEIB): STAY WOKE!

This workshop offers a step-by-step strategy to get better results in diversity and equity work. Participants will gain understanding, skills and competencies regarding diversity, equity, belonging. Topics include defining diversity, equity, equality, inclusion, mattering, belonging, anti-racism, microaggressions, critical race theory and more.

Eddie Moore Jr., PhD, Author and Speaker

Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. has pursued and achieved success in academia, business, diversity, leadership and community service. In 1996, he started America & MOORE, LLC to provide comprehensive diversity, privilege and leadership training/workshops. Dr. Moore is recognized as one of the nation’s top speakers and educators. His interview with Wisconsin Public Radio won the 2015 Wisconsin Broadcasters Association’s Best Interview in Medium Market Radio, 1st Place, and he is featured in the film “I’m not Racist….Am I?” Dr. Moore is the Founder/Program Director for the White Privilege Conference (WPC). In 2014 Dr. Moore founded The Privilege Institute (TPI) which engages people in research, education, action and leadership through workshops, conferences, publications and strategic partnerships and relationships. He is co-founder of the on-line journal Understanding and Dismantling Privilege, co-editor of Everyday White People Confront Racial and Social Injustice: 15 Stories, The Guide for White Women who Teach Black Boys,The Diversity Consultant Cookbook: Preparing for the Challenge (2019), Teaching Beautiful Brilliant Black Girls (2021) and Lil’ e – The Big Misunderstanding (2020). For 10-years, he served as Dir of Diversity at Brooklyn Friends School (Brooklyn, NY) and The Bush School (Seattle, WA). Dr. Moore received his PhD from the University of Iowa in Education Leadership. His PhD research is on Black Football Players at Division III Schools in the Midwest.  

CRITICAL RACE THEORY: A CRITICAL DISCUSSION

Special Guest Speaker: Professor Adrien Wing, University of Iowa Law School

This workshop examines the recent controversy around critical race theory (CRT) that has surged as a dubious strategy by opponents to sow division, stir strife, and promote reverse racism, rather than its original intent of drawing attention to the role of race in the legal system — as well as other societal systems — in perpetuating inequities and exclusion.

Professor Adrien Wing is the Associate Dean for International and Comparative Law Programs and the Bessie Dutton Murray Professor at the University of Iowa College of Law, where she has taught since 1987. Additionally, she serves as the Director of the University of Iowa Center for Human Rights, as well as Director of the France Summer Abroad Program. She has previously served as the Associate Dean for Faculty Development and the on-site Director for the London Law Consortium semester abroad program.

Ricky Robertson, Author and Speaker

Ricky Robertson (he/they) has had the privilege to work with students from pre-K to 12th grade who have persevered in the face of trauma and adversity. Along with Victoria Romero & Amber Warner, Ricky is the co-author of the Corwin bestselling book, Building Resilience in Students Impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences: A Whole Staff Approach. As a consultant and coach, Ricky supports schools and districts across the country in developing multi-tiered social-emotional and behavioral supports that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive. Ricky’s approach also integrates practices that foster educator self-care, resilience, and efficacy. Ricky’s deep respect for young people and the educators who serve them continue to inspire his work today.

John G. Igwebuike, JD, PhD

Dr. John G. Igwebuike is founder and non-profit leader of Guanacaste:  The Lead Listening Institute. Guanacaste is a quiet revolution–a unique movement dedicated to advancing and championing the positive power of effective listening in human relationships. Dr. Igwebuike is a highly motivated individual who values education, personal growth, and development.  He holds two bachelor’s degrees (Education and Business Administration) from The Ohio State University, an M.B.A. from California State Polytechnic University and a second Master’s in Labor and Human Resources from The Ohio State University. In 1998, he earned a Ph.D. in Business Education & Human Resources Development from The Ohio State University. Finally, he received a law degree from Indiana University in 2000.
