Academic Coaching

At the Community Network Council, we believe all children have the potential to succeed in school. However, we also acknowledge that some kids will face challenges, and need a bit of extra help to excel. Many of these challenges can cause disruption during the school day, while others exist when the student is out of school. These challenges can be as minor as a student needing school supplies, or as major as the student dealing with chronic homelessness.

The CNC is here to help!

Our Academic Coaching program was created to help students to deal with these situations. We provide direct support for the student, parents, and school officials to give these students as much help as necessary.

Here is how the program works.

An Academic Coach from the CNC will meet with school officials, parents, and the child to identify any challenges the student is having.  After these challenges are identified a CNC team member (Academic Coach) will meet with the child and his/her parents to create a plan to address the documented challenges, and to create a plan to help the student to improve. This plan serves as a pseudo-contract between all involved, and is used to manage academic expectations with the child. After the plan is created, the Academic Coach will interface with the student, at the student’s school, on a regular basis. This enables the Academic Coach to provide assistance to the student to ensure he/she continues to progress with their planned objectives. This plan is managed by the Academic Coach, using regularly scheduled communication and meetings with school staff and the child’s family.
